Lupus (including SLE) is an autoimmune disease (a disease which the body's own immune system attacks its own tissues and organs attacks). The disease can be mild or severe, no two are equally affected. It is not a cancer. Yes, you can lupus be fatal, but not as often as it had in the past.

No, not cancer. It is an autoimmune disease. This is not necessarily fatal.

Lupus is not cancer.

When someone with lupus, your immune system attacks its own organs, instead of attacking viruses, bacteria and cancer. Cancer is wildly dividing cells and do not die when they should.

Lupus can be fatal, but with regular medical surveillance and compliance with treatment regimen can be expected, most patients with lupus, that lead a normal life. Some die from complications of lupus, but the cause of death in lupus patients is infection.
